2002: “While traveling at 35 MPH a deer ran out in front of my truck. I heavily applied the brakes and immediately the brake pedal traveled to the floor. All brake fluid dump out and the vehicle veered off into the woods. After getting the vehicle towed home I discovered the hard brake lines had heavy rust and corrosion and had developed a pin leak which ruptured upon pressing. I have owned several vehicles over the years and I have never seen corrosion on brake lines like this truck. I ordered the parts and was told by a factory GM mechanic that this is a very common problem with these vehicles.”
NHTSA complaint #10577740, filed 2014-04, 109,000 miles2000: “Rust on rotors!! - Gmc 1500 1/2 ton pickup. 2000 yr. To make it short for now, was told by a Gmc technician at 19000 miles that rust was forming on brake rotors. Dealership told me GM had a problem with the metal for the rotors. I have a case number with GM about the problem. But like I said I will make it short for now. February, while in florida ,brakes wouldn't work. Went into median strip. Nobody hurt, no damage, lucky!! Gmc dealer in florida had to replace the rotors due to the rust. They couldn't turn the rotors down, they were that bad. …”
NHTSA complaint #10152008, filed 2006-03, 37,000 miles2001: “Dt: 2001, Gmc, Silverado. The contact states ABS brakes failed 08/05/2005 at 10 MPH and caused vehicle to crash into the back of a building. This happened on 8-5-05. The contact first noticed this at 60,000 miles and it became progressively worse. The dealership told the contact it was because of dirty sensors. There was about $3,000 damage done to truck. Had not talked to Gmc, just the dealership.”
