Example complaints

One per model year, chosen for length and detail. Personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

1999: “My 1999 c1500 Suburban caught fire while parked and completely off. It had been parked fro 9 hours when we were awakened at 2am by neighbors and police trying to evacuate our home. The car burned to the ground and was the most frightening experience. I have a 9 and 6 year old that are traumatized by the incident. I reported the matter to the Gmc customer care and they replied saying that they would contact me in 2 days. This is unforgiveable.”

NHTSA complaint #10818727, filed 2016-01, 229,000 miles

1997: “Steering speed sensor fails causing the steering to suddenly jerk while turning under speed. It feels like the front wheels hit slippery ice . I have replaced this item 3 times on my own and the sensor keeps failing. The one in my car currently is experiencing the problem again and will need replacing.”

NHTSA complaint #10370618, filed 2010-12, 185,000 miles

1998: “I have a 1998 Gmc Suburban just purchased and I experienced the same problem described in recall #05v379000. Result was my wife slammed into the back of another car in our driveway. Damage was minimal but I sure don't want her driving this vehicle until it is fixed! I called GM and they said this year (1998) is not effected! Yeah, right!”

NHTSA complaint #10206982, filed 2007-10, 109,200 miles
