“My 2014 Terrain 2.4 eco tech is using excessive oil consumption. I noticed there has been a recall and class action suit about this. This has also caused my timing chain to need replaced. I was driving to work a couple weeks ago and the engine entering low power mode notification came on. Along with the check engine light. And the stability control light came on.”
NHTSA complaint #11362767, filed 2020-10, 149,000 miles“Driving from work car was working fine. Came to a stop. Car started sounding like a diesel truck. Next stop car stopped all of a sudden. Towed it home then to the shop. Mechanic asked me when I did the last oil change. Oil change was done at dealership 8 weeks ago. Oil had burned completely and caused the engine to fail. I now need to replace completely. $5k on a 6 year old car with 84k miles.”
NHTSA complaint #11386526, filed 2021-01, 84,000 miles“The car at 80k had its engine repaired under warranty for a bad deal which then ruined pistons and etc. At 155k it did the same and powered down on the side of the road with engine issues. I was driving on the road when this happened leaving me on a curve and the engine fuming and oil pouring out under neath”
NHTSA complaint #11301901, filed 2020-01, 155,000 miles“My car engine light comes on and the car keeps cutting off when I stop or when I get ready to drive. I took my car to the mechanic and he is telling me is the camshaft that these cars have alot of complaints for this. My car has less than 52k miles. I don't drive my car a lot. This is horrible that this is happening so soon.”
NHTSA complaint #11181358, filed 2019-02, 51,000 miles“Vehicle with only 75,00 miles, runs rough and stalls, went to dealer and they say due to low oil at some point the timing chain has stretched and needs replaced along with sensors and actuators. Timing chain and associated parts replaced to the tune of $1715.00. I check the oil and the dealership has been changing it. This looks to be a factory defect. I have sent a letter to GM for resolution as well.”
