Example complaints

Selected from NHTSA records; personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

“I opened back rear lift glass and it made a very strange noise. I closed it then noticed it was not sitting straight so I opened it again to see what the problem was. When I tried to close it again it would not lock and then one hinge holding the glass on just broke and then the glass was only held on by one hinge and was completely crooked. I contacted Gmc dealer and they said $1,100.00 repair because they had to repair the whole glass plus the hinges. …”

NHTSA complaint #10166450, filed 2006-08, 86,000 miles

“The spare tire fell off the truck. Is held on by a hoist and cable system. The cable broke allowing the tire to fall to the ground. Luckily the vehicle was being backed out of the garage and not going down the road when it happened. This could have been fatal for my family or others on the road! So far I have called the dealership and Gmc. They want to schedule an appointment but as of right now do not want to cover the part because its more than seven years old. This is not acceptable. This part failed and could have caused injury to my family and or others. …”

NHTSA complaint #10439188, filed 2011-12, 61,181 miles

“The rear liftgate hinges, that are glued to the rear liftgate glass, has come free from the glass. Neither the glass liftgate or hinges are damaged, the attaching compound (I.e. Glue?) has failed. The car is still under a factory extended warranty, but Gmc cannot repair the defect. They must replace undamaged items in order to replace the failed adhesive.”

NHTSA complaint #10136019, filed 2005-09, 79,240 miles

“I currently own (purchased new) a 2001 Yukon Xl which is equipped with a rear tailgate having a hinged rear window which allows access to the rear compartment without opening the tailgate. The rear tailgate glass is secured to the tailgate via two hinges which are secured to the glass by an adhesive. The passenger side window hinge has delaminated from the tailgate glass resulting in the window being secured to the vehicle with one hinge. There is no mechanical securement to the glass. …”
