“My vehicle stalled while driving on a busy highway & I had no option but to pull over, which left me & my family in a very dangerous position. Had to remove my daughter's wheelchair onto a tow truck as the vehicle had no power to use the hoist for her powerchair. Again, on the side of a busy road! Towed the vehicle to a GM dealership, who stated there was catastrophic engine failure & the engine had to be replaced. Had no way to transport my daughter until I got a new engine since her hoist was stuck at the dealership.”

NHTSA complaint #11657786, filed 2025-04

“I am filing this complaint regarding a serious and ongoing safety issue with my GMC Yukon Denali that began with a complete engine failure while driving on the highway with my entire family in the vehicle. While driving at highway speed (about 60–70 mph), the vehicle suddenly lost power and shifted into neutral on its own. While still moving, I tried multiple times to shift back into Drive so I could safely get off the road, but it would not engage. I was only able to coast partially onto the shoulder before the vehicle came to a complete stop, still partly exposed to traffic. …”

NHTSA complaint #11713954, filed 2026-01

“2024 GMC Yukon XL Denali with approximately 30,000 miles. The vehicle previously completed the L87 recall remedy (NHTSA 25V274000). The dealer inspected the engine, it passed, and the higher-viscosity oil change, filter, oil-fill cap, and owner’s manual insert were performed. Despite that remedy, the vehicle later experienced a sudden loss of propulsion on the highway while traveling with family. The vehicle began shaking and the engine shut down. There were no check-engine lights, warning messages, or other notifications prior to or during the failure. The vehicle was towed to a GM dealer. …”
