“While in slow traffic, I pressed brakes to stop. The brake peddle did not compress down, causing me to have to enter the highway median to keep from striking the vehicle in front of me. The median was wet and muddy. Our Yukon had to be pulled from the median by a good samaritan.”
NHTSA complaint #11233760, filed 2019-07, 124,000 miles“Vehicle in motion and brakes would not work unless you put all your body weight on the brakes, and then just barely. Happened multiple times on and off both at high rate of speed on highway and on city streets. Took into Gmc dealership and they replaced the vacuum pump for the brakes -- problem solved after spending $800. We are lucky this is a major safety issue that could have caused a serious accident. I understand this exact problem is a known problem currently being investigated. …”
NHTSA complaint #11193808, filed 2019-04, 62,000 miles“On two occasions while in a drive thru line, I would press the brakes and the brake pedal would go to the floor. I had to basically stand up on the brake pedal to get the vehicle to stop. I have not had this happen other than at a low rate of speed. I searched Gmc Yukon for any recalls and found that this is a recall with Gmc. When you do a search of my vehicle by VIN, it states no recalls are found. I contacted a local Gmc dealer and was told that they can't do anything unless my VIN shows the active recall.”
NHTSA complaint #11355591, filed 2020-09, 30,000 miles“Third time this happened, first two times my husband was driving(he called the dealership and they said they had not heard of any problems) and when it happened to me it was scary. I had my kids in the car, no injuries and no one was hurt, thank god. I was going through the drive thru stopped at the first window, accelerated to next window (low speed) and didn't stop... It was the like the brakes locked up, couldn't press down at all. Called the dealership first thing in the morning, same thing didn't know of any issues. …”
NHTSA complaint #11180362, filed 2019-02, 52,989 miles“Brake light on vehicle works intermittently and is no longer safe. This is a problem Gmc is well aware of and no solution in sight. Cheap metal board brakes inside the lens and leaves you with no brake light. I do not want my family to be rear ended because of this professional grade? Brake light failure, at any time on road.this is a 2016 Gmc Yukon with 22710 miles as I write. Brake light has failed while moving on the city streets. This failure is currently on the passenger side brake light. Trying to make appointment for repair of this professional grade brake light? …”
