Example complaints

One per model year, chosen for length and detail. Personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

2009: “I removed the seat to do routine maintenance on the motorcycle and found that the drivers seat had cracked down the center of the seat frame which could cause the seat to separate into two pieces, this could cause the driver to loose control of the bike if this were to happen. I have pictures I can send if I can get an e-mail address to send them to.”

NHTSA complaint #10588622, filed 2014-05, 31,875 miles

2011: “The rear wheel spoke came loose it has happened 3 times since I got the bike. The bike was very hard to control. I have had the bike serviced and have had to have the spokes tightened before. I check them ever time I wash (once a week)the bike. I'm not sure why there is not recall on this problem. I have to replace the rim now with a mag.. It is just not safe to ride..”

NHTSA complaint #10661779, filed 2014-12, 35,000 miles

2012: “My rear brakes stopped working while in motion. The rear brake pedal became rock solid & would not depress. The brake fluid was checked & found to have plenty in the reservoir. I had a harley davidson technician analyze it & was told that the ABS unit has gone bad, I was also told that there was a recall on this ABS unit for harley davidson motorcycles but only through years 2011. However, I bought my motorcycle on 09-11-11 so have to wonder whether my motorcycle would be covered. …”
