“The lower ball joint separated --the front suspension collapsed, breaking the axle and rim of front left tire and turned the left tire sideways. Upon researching the cost of the ball joints on the internet I found that there was a recall dated 5/10/99 for 1997 Honda accords for the exact same problem...my vehicle was not included in the recall.”

NHTSA complaint #10458906, filed 2012-05, 130,000 miles

“Suspension:front:control arm:lower ball joint summary: vehicle description: passenger vehicles. Certain vehicles were manufactured with ball joints that can prematurely wear out and, in the worse case, the ball joint would separate causing the front suspension to collapse. Consequences: this condition would result in vehicle deceleration and a sudden loss of power. Also steering controllability would be reduced. My car VIN is not listed under this recall but I just had an estimate to fix those exact parts. …”

NHTSA complaint #10404505, filed 2011-06, 160,000 miles

“There is a recall for a 97 Honda Accord that matches the problem with my vehicle. I contacted Honda motor company and they gave me the run around and said that my VIN does not match any recalls for this problem. I also wanted to know the build date of my vehicle, you would think they would know that since they built it, no information was given, they don't know. Nhtsa campaign id #99v069000.”

NHTSA complaint #10018673, filed 2003-05, 65,000 miles

“Squeaking noise when going over bumps during cold weather. Replaced sway bar bushings but problem has not gone away. Have found out after talking to Honda technician that the struts in the front and rear struts are worn. This is a known issue according to technician from Honda. Very annoying problem that Honda knows about and will not fix.”

NHTSA complaint #10039508, filed 2003-09, 55,000 miles

“When the brakes were applied, the vehicle vibrated severely. The dealer stated it was normal. The consumer took the vehicle to the dealer and they told her the problem was the rotors, however after the rotors were replaced the problem continued. The dealer stated the vibration was normal and to just get a alignment.”
