“While traveling at 70 MPH on I-95 northbound just north of exit 121 in 5th gear, I experienced an unexpected and alarming engine RPM change, causing me to divert my attention from the roadway ahead to my instrument panel in an effort to determine what had occurred. Fortunately, I have an aftermarket gear indicator that showed the motorcycle to now be in 4th gear. Regaining my composure, I shifted back into 5th gear and resumed looking up to the roadway to continue my trip.”

NHTSA complaint #10450035, filed 2012-03, 4,092 miles

“Three months ago I bought a 2010 goldwing with only 11,000 miles on it. Rode it for a month and the transmmison going into 5th gear is slipping. Taking it to Honda and they have determined the transmission needs to be replaced. They have agreed to pay for the parts. Which the labor is crazy and cost more than the parts. Which I'm very grateful that they have done that. But it appears that this is a know defect why has there not been a recall on the transmission? It would be nice to know these defects before not after having to dish out a lot of of money on a pretty much new goldwing. …”
