“Rear window shattered randomly on a cool day with the rear defrost on. I was parked and bearded a boom and looked back and my rear window was shattered. No damage to the vehicle, no accident with vehicle, and object thrown at window. The window just shattered randomly. I’ve read this is a common issue with this year and model, I’ve heard the rear defrost overheats and shatters the glass.”
NHTSA complaint #11547869, filed 2023-10“My rear windshield shattered out of nowhere. My son was in the backseat when it happened. I called the police and they are also confused on how my window shattered, it doesn’t show any puncture or impact of any kind just a shattered window. No warning lights came on before or after. I took my baby to the dealer and they also did not see what could have caused it to shatter. Believe it may be an manufacturing defect.”
NHTSA complaint #11540533, filed 2023-08“The rear windshield of my 2023 Honda HRV shattered and broke randomly. There was no collision, tampering with, or theft attempts. No one was around the car. The rear windshield simply shattered - less than 48 hours after I purchased the car.”
NHTSA complaint #11699933, filed 2025-11“I was driving to work in my 2023 HR-V on a main highway this morning, (5-15-2024) and I heard a pop sound. I looked in my rear view mirror and my back windshield was shattered. I have called my local dealer, White Plains Honda and left a message. And as of yet have not heard back. There was no warning lights or signs anything was wrong. I did see on the evening news that this is an on going issue with HR-V's. But no recall has been put out.”
NHTSA complaint #11588836, filed 2024-05“The rear window of our 2023 Honda HRV exploded with no incident whatsoever. We had parked the car on Sunday, July 2, 2023 and taken walk on beach at 7:30 in the morning. When we left at 8:15 we heard a noise from the back as we drove off and looked in rear view mirror to see that the back glass was shattering. Continued to shatter as we made our way back home - 1-1/2 miles. This is a Sunday and will consult with dealership on Monday.”
