“Gas gauge is not reading correctly. Gas tank holds 21.2 gallons, yet when the gauge reads 1/4, it only takes 8 gallons to fill. Do a 360 turn, the gauge goes from an indicated 1/2 full to empty, then low fuel light comes on. As I straighten out the gauge takes about 10 minutes to recover. I find this is a common problem with this class of automobile. Isuzu rodeo, amigo, and other Honda passports, 1998 to present. I've been quoted between $500 - $700 to fix. From my research, the fix may last only 30k miles.”

NHTSA complaint #10151739, filed 2006-03, 136,000 miles

“Honda Passport 2000: continuous failure of the gas sensor in the gas tank. Expensive procedure to fix and I have also been advised by dealer that the repair is costly and not effective. Because it causes the obc to check engine car always fails state emissions test. I purchased this car used and the used car dealer could not even explain the error at first. The car is made by izuzu and this is a common problem also with the rodeo's a recall needs to be made as I am sure many cars are failing the emissions test as well as running out of gas, while driving, because the sensor fails.”

NHTSA complaint #10145798, filed 2005-12, 75,000 miles

“The engine and transmission light came on and have been flashing, while I was on the street, then the steering wheel does not turn smoothly and the car produces noise when turning to the left or right or reversing. And while running, it produces smoke”

NHTSA complaint #11282100, filed 2019-11, 139,822 miles

“Just read web info on fuel gauge not reading correctly after gas tank is about half full on Honda passports. My vehicle's fuel gauge moves significantly on turns and at times check engine light comes when tank is about gas 1/2 full. This just started happening when the vehicle had approx 87k miles on it. When gas tanked is topped off - usually around 8-10 gals - everything starts working fine again. Heard Honda may have announced a recalled this for Honda passports but up to year model1999. …”

NHTSA complaint #10615852, filed 2014-07, 87,000 miles

“After 2-3 hours of driving engine shut down intermittently and it was impossible to get the vehicle restarted until it cooled down. The dealer and an independent shop inspected the vehicle but could not duplicate or correct the problem. They suspected the failure may be related to the fuel system.”
