“My Honda Pilot automatically applied the brakes 2 times while traveling on the interstate at 60 mph when there was no one in front of me and no one even near me. Both times it applied the brakes automatically and suddenly for no reason. It could have caused a bad accident. I was fortunate no one was behind me. Honda denies anything is wrong because it didn’t do it for them when they took it for a drive.”
NHTSA complaint #11725041, filed 2026-03“The automatic emergency braking system in my vehicle has repeatedly activated without any visible reason. The brakes engage suddenly even when there are no cars, curves, reflective surfaces, or obstacles nearby. This has occurred on straight, empty roads and in clear conditions. We have previously taken the car to the dealership for issues related to sensors and wiring, and were even told at one point to turn off certain safety features. …”
NHTSA complaint #11667469, filed 2025-06“Sudden collision warning displayed on dashboard and brakes were automatically applied. No vehicles in front of me and vehicle behind was sufficient distance away. There was no collision situation at all. Brake system light, collision warning light, and collision mitigation braking system problem - See your dealer displayed on dashboard. I pulled into parking a parking lot, stopped, and turned engine off. After restarting engine, error seemed to clear. Dealer review is pending.”
NHTSA complaint #11598559, filed 2024-07“After going over a railroad track, at 15mph, several warning sensors appeared. Including brakes, power steering and several more flashed quickly. Power steering failed and I could not turn my wheel. It told me to not drive and see a dealer. Luckily I was in traffic and it was moving slow. I was able to turn my car off and back on and all the senor systems cleared. I took my car to the dealer, which it is at now, and they cant find a problem outside of wheel sensor going off in history. I dont feel safe with this car.”
NHTSA complaint #11763296, filed 2026-09“I was driving down a residential road at about 40 mph. There was no car or other obstacle in front of me, but my car suddenly slammed on the brakes. It brought the car to an abrupt stop for no reason. If a car had been behind me, they would have slammed into me. It was so abrupt, I felt like I had whiplash. It was terrifying. I had taken the car into the dealership to due to the brake pin recall just 3 days ago. They inspected and said the pin was fine. When I called them to report this experience, they said it was unrelated to the recall. …”
