Example complaints

Steering: “When going around curves more than 35 MPH the car will start decelerating (as if it's braking on its own without me engaging the braking system)and the ESC light illuminates on dash. Also the exhaust makes a popping noise after engine is shut off which cause a powertrain issue because the vehicle is not accerrating properly. I personally know someone that has the same exact vehicle and that customer experiences the same issue.”

NHTSA complaint #11128841, filed 2018-09, 129,000 miles

Air bags: “Srs warning light on dash came on 6 months ago. I got prices of $400-2000 to repair. Dealer was $120 just to do diagnostic. I've googled problem and this is common for elantra. This is a safety issue. Why is there a recall?”

NHTSA complaint #11323502, filed 2020-05, 155,000 miles

Electrical system: “I purchased the car in feb 2012 at 34,214 mi and in 1 yr time, I kept blowing lights...headlights, fog, brake and tail. I put a lot of miles on my car so by the time I became annoyed by it, I just missed my warranty so I let it go. Ffwd to sept 2014, I couldn't keep my tail and brake lights functioning at the same time. After several bulb replacements, it was discovered that it wasn't the bulbs that kept blowing, but rather the fuse. As soon as I turned the lights on, it would pop. …”

NHTSA complaint #10704919, filed 2015-04, 118,470 miles

Brakes: “Emergency brake handle is loose. Randomly while driving the ebrake light comes on the dashboard. To make the light go away, I have to tap the brake down. The lever handle is loose and shakes when I am driving. This could be a dangerous situation. This happens daily. This started happening a few months ago.”
