“While driving highway speeds (65mph-75mph) the emergency braking system randomly activated causing my car to slow to almost a halt and swerve itself in the middle of the highway almost causing multiple accidents. It has happened 2-3 times over the past 2-3 months. Brought to a dealer and it could not be duplicated so I was sent on my way worried about this car.”
NHTSA complaint #11621694, filed 2024-10“My vehicle experienced a sudden and complete brake assist failure, including the emergency brake. I was unable to stop the vehicle, which directly resulted in a collision. Prior to the crash, the car showed no warning lights. After the accident, I had the vehicle inspected at the Hyundai dealership. The dealership stated they could not reproduce the failure and “found no issues,” which contradicts the symptoms. …”
NHTSA complaint #11703870, filed 2025-12“My daughter was driving the car to work. The car accelerated even thou her foot was lightly placed on the gas pedal, it was like pressing the gas pedal to race the car. This happened 4 times on her 4.5 mile drive to work. When she was turning into the parking lot, she had her foot on the brake and the car accelerated again which scared her as she didnt want to crash into the cars in front. I read a lot of such complaints on the hyundai forum. I talked to the dealership service mechanics and they say that they will have to replicate it. …”
NHTSA complaint #11525452, filed 2023-06“I bought my brand new 2022 Elantra in July of 2021, the only problem I have experienced is the brakes make a sort of wailing noise. It's not a screeching noise as if the brakes need to be changed or that the rotors are worn or brake pads are low. It is not a sound I've heard brake make before and it typically makes the sound when in reverse and slow speeds. I was a mechanic in the United States Air Force for 16 year so I know a lot about mechanical issues so a year old car certainly shouldn't be making these kinds of sounds.”
NHTSA complaint #11479552, filed 2022-08“I drove my vehicle to the store, parked and went in to the store to get some things. When I came out and started the car several things were wrong with the car. The power steering was not working, the RPM gauge didn't work at all, the back up camera also was not operational. The check engine light was on, the forward collision light was illuminated. I was able to drive it home but that was a sketchy drive home. The next morning I got in the car and started it up no problem, none of the issues from the previous day were there, the power steering worked perfectly and everything was fine. …”
