“While driving down the highway, our sunroof just exploded. Sounded like a bomb. I looked around and the sunroof was gone and glass was falling all over my husband and me. We had to pull off the road. This could have been a disaster. I believe Hyundai is at fault and should have to replace the sunroof, after doing a google search and seeing how many others this has happened to.”
NHTSA complaint #10960374, filed 2017-03, 14,055 miles“Using the car in eco when entering the interstate I'm speeding up my car goes higher in rpms and is not shifting to correct the change and I'll have to flip it into manual and shift into a higher gear. This has happened at least 3 times and does not happen every time but the first time almost got me hit by a car because I couldn't slow down due to timing and also was not speeding up correctly due to the car not auto correcting.”
NHTSA complaint #11240258, filed 2019-07, 84,000 miles“My Hyundai Santa Fe sport 2013 model suddenly caught fire while the vehicle was in motion. There was no accident involved. Incident happened on dec 5, 2019. I am attaching the fire department report. My wife was driving the vehicle on city road at a speed of 45 MPH and suddenly smoke started coming out of hood. She stopped the vehicle, got out of it and a nearby driver called 911. Fire department folks reached the location in 5 to 10 mins and controlled the fire.”
NHTSA complaint #11298274, filed 2020-01, 58,000 miles“I was heading home around 9 pm last night and only a few blocks from home when I heard a loud pop that sounded like a gun shot. I looked around and didn't see anything out of the ordinary but a few seconds later I started to hear tiny pieces of glass falling down on my sunshade under the panoramic sunroof on my 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe sport. When I got home, I saw that the front half of my sunroof had spontaneously exploded. …”
NHTSA complaint #10746000, filed 2015-08, 25,000 miles“I was driving down my block directly in front of my home under 25 miles/hour on a city street. I was driving straight forward and not turning. Suddenly, there was a loud short noise like a gun going off so I got out of the care, only to find that the sunroof had severely cracked and the glass had risen up. I did not hit anything nor did any rocks or debris fall on my car. The cracking was totally spontaneous and seemingly without cause. It was approx. 7:00 pm at night. …”
