“The engine throttles while accelerating and leaks oil and a burning smell comes from under the hood. the smell passes through the air vents and fills the car. I am afraid it might catch fire under the hood. The suspension makes noise and can also feel on the steering wheel. I will appreciate the company if they take safety measures in fixing this issue.”

NHTSA complaint #11511091, filed 2023-03, 142,609 miles

“I was driving along 55mph on a 2 lane road when suddenly the car shut off. I was fortunate that it died at the top of a hill and I was able to coast to the safety of a side street. I was in a remote part of michigan and 20 miles from any service stations with my 3 children. The car would not restart. I was able to contact a tow truck who took it to my mechanic who said the engine had failed and I would need a new engine.”

NHTSA complaint #11612852, filed 2024-09, 114,000 miles

“I was making a left turn on to a street going uphill and my 2017 Hyundai sante fe sport awd ultimate hesitated for approximately 10 seconds. When I pressed the gas I could not get speed. My traction lights blinked on and off. I had to floor the gas to gain speed. This is extremely dangerous. I could have been t- boned or hit from behind if there was traffic on the street.”

NHTSA complaint #11204635, filed 2019-04, 9,000 miles

Dealership requesting oil consumption test every 1000 miles, 04-01-21 1.5 quarts low. I have to do 2 more test, this is a skirt around the problem, and an engine flush for sludge, more skirting the problem. My warranty expires in 6 weeks!”

NHTSA complaint #11407495, filed 2021-04, 47,408 miles

“The car is sluggish on acceleration. Looking up forums it seems that quite a few are experiencing this. I just read I just read an article that said that Hyundai will be replacing some engines for this same issue due to a manufacturing defect with the crankshaft pin. On a forum.”
