“The ESC off light comes on while I am driving. When the light is not on, the car drives fine. Once it comes on, it jumps every time the car switches gears or stops accelerating if my foot is on the gas. Each time I turn the car off, the light goes off, car drives fine and then the light comes back up randomly. Very scary especially when driving on the highway or up an incline.”

NHTSA complaint #10820513, filed 2016-01, 191,560 miles

“My car has accelerated at least 10 times in the last 3 years when you put your foot on the brake the car bolts forward and keep going. It is a intermit problem and last time I almost got seriously hurt. The car won't stop when you hit the brakes. It happens driving and parking.”

“When I pump gas even when on a empty tank , the gas will splash back all over the place almost like its full but when it's really empty , also the ESC will turn off and on by its self from time to time , had too replace the fuel pump at 90,000 miles , now I'm getting a code po449 even with new gas cap .. Last but not least my paint is peeling off my car , especially the hood and roof . Noticed Hyundai sheds there paint ,”

NHTSA complaint #10846470, filed 2016-03, 90,000 miles

“Esc off light comes on and goes off. My car wont speed up on the freeway while this is happening and has almost put us in 2 accidents. My ESC off light turns on by itself and causes the car to slow while im driving or even peel out in parking lots. I follow posted speed signs, but this switch turning on and off on its own with my two very young children in the car is very dangerous and even more scary.”

NHTSA complaint #10627215, filed 2014-08, 106,096 miles

“I've driven this car since 2011 and have not had an issue like this before. Last week, (october, 1, 2017). While driving down an off-ramp at ~35 MPH, my 2010 Hyundai Sonata's ESC off light came on and would not go off ; at the same time my cruise control has stopped working. When I turn the car off and back on again, the ESC off light is off, but within 5-7 minutes of driving it comes back on again and stays on and the cruise control does not work now regardless of if the ESC off light is on or not. This occurs now every time I drive the car. …”
