Example complaints
Transmission and drivetrain: “My 2003 Hyundai santa fe has 71,000 miles on it and I'm having problems with the clutch. Now from doing a little research online I find that I am not the only one. I am a part time student, and work a full time job, but replacing my clutch is a bit expensive and I do not believe that I can afford it. If many people are having clutch or transmission problems shouldn't there be a recall?”
NHTSA complaint #10188871, filed 2007-04, 71,000 milesBrakes: “Writer has a 2003 sonata. My drivers rear caliper would wear down the brake pads very fast and the others would be like new. After 2 visits the caliper was replaced. After 2 days of sitting in the garage I'd back the car up and hear grinding. The dealer said it was just rust on the rotor and it stopped after driving a few minutes. After being put in storage over the summer to drive my sports car during the summer I went to driver the sonata. While sitting in the warehouse during summer all four rotors rusted up beyond being able to drive the car safely. And the front calipers seized up. …”

It happened three times. The third time it did it, I had it in reverse with my foot on the brakes and while my wife was trying to enter the car on the passenger seat side, the car rabbit jumbed backward and cause her injuries that warranted taking her to the emergency room on september 12 2005. I searched the internet and found out that many other owners had the same exact experience and that they all had trouble convincing Hyundai of the problem. …”
