Example complaints

Selected from NHTSA records; personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

“When shifting from park to drive vehicle bolted ahead at full acceleration without my touching accelerator pedal. Applied full brake pedal with no effect and could only stop vehicle by turning off ignition with key. Jaguar dealer advised me that build up of carbon around throttle linkage caused the problem. Extremely lucky to have suffered no injuries to anyone or collision damage. Vehicle traveled 75 feet across busy intersection at very high speed before I could stop it.”

NHTSA complaint #721399, filed 2000-04

“Consumer was parked in driveway, turned on the engine, shifted from park to drive, and all of a sudden vehicle accelerated and took off. Damages caused to property wall and another house. Dealer/manufacturer were contacted.”

NHTSA complaint #832585, filed 1998-12
