“The contact owns a 1999 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that the factory installed amplifier caught fire while driving 75 MPH. He had to disconnect the battery to stop the sparks and flames coming from the amp. He also had to cut the wires that were connected to the amp and remove the fuse for the radio. The vehicle has not been repaired. The contact feels that this is a safety issue because the amp is positioned underneath the rear passenger seat where the child safety seat is located. The current and failure mileages were 142,000.”

NHTSA complaint #10266085, filed 2009-04, 142,000 miles

“Every Jeep Cherokee (around 1999 years) have no AC. It is a crime to see almost every Jeep Cherokee on the highway with their windows open in 95 degree temps. We are talking thousands of Jeep owners! Repair costs are staggering.”

NHTSA complaint #10235612, filed 2008-07

“Spare tire mounted on left side blocks view of driver. Should be on right side of vehicle behind driver. This is a rhd vehicle used for mail delivery. Have almost hit 2 cars that were blocked from my view by the tire. Chrysler said the right panel will not hold the spare and the only options are to lay the tire down on the floor or purchase a roof rack and mount it on the roof.”

NHTSA complaint #733450, filed 2000-10

“Rotors went bad only 18,000 miles on vehicle. Consumer has taken vehicle in for rotors twice. Contacted dealer, and dealer was not willing to do anything. Brakes pulsate when applying brakes. Right front and left front brake rotors were replaced. The left speaker cuts out over bumps.”

NHTSA complaint #887073, filed 2001-04

“Condensation would build up in air conditioner which caused mildew when drying. It would then expel an odor. According to mechanic, there is no remedy for the problem, except maybe spraying with lysol. When air conditioner is off can smell it, but worse when its on.”
