Example complaints

Electrical system: “I pulled out of a gas station after filling up my tank and was trying to make a right turn and my truck completely shut down, no warning lights came on and I was unable to steer. The truck rolled across 2 lanes of traffic, resting on the concrete divider of the street. I was able to put the truck into park and restart it. I have taken the truck to 2 dealerships and they have been unable to diagnose the issue. I have also contacted Jeep and worked with a case manager with the company and they have been unable to help me.”

NHTSA complaint #10497768, filed 2013-02, 61,000 miles

Engine: “This morning the car would not start at all. Battery is 100%. All lights come on, everything else works fine but engine will not start. Vehicle is in excellent condition very low mileage. If this would have happened out in the bush we would be in serious trouble. Chatter on most of the Jeep forums confirms multiple no start issues across the Jeep product line.”

NHTSA complaint #10758590, filed 2015-08, 35,000 miles

Transmission and drivetrain: “The contact owns a 2009 Jeep COMMANDER 4X4. The contact stated while driving approximately 40 MPH the transmission independently shifted into four wheel drive. The vehicle was maneuvered to the side of the road where the engine was turned off. Upon restarting the vehicle it began to function normally. The failure recurred numerous times. There was a recall associated with NHTSA recall campaign id number 13v175000 (electrical system , power train). The VIN was not a part of the recall. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the problem. …”

NHTSA complaint #10520856, filed 2013-06

Other or unknown: “While the vehicle was stationary and off, I am unable to start the car. All lights work properly, and the battery is new & working. After hitting the starter with a wrench, the vehicle started. This continues to happen.”
