Example complaints

Selected from NHTSA records; personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

“My vehicle started stalling when I was merging onto a busy highway. The electronic throttle sensor and stability sensor came on and I had to pull off on the shoulder of the road. The car was very hard to get to a stop. The breaks did not work very well and the car was jerking horribly. The car kept trying to die and would rev up and down by itself. It turned the car off and back on and it reset itself but it happened again.”

NHTSA complaint #10683584, filed 2015-02, 65,000 miles

“It began to rain so we turned on our wipers only to find that we had no wipers. They will turn on sometimes, but only on the highest setting, yet at a less than minimal speed. We thought it could be a loose connection or something seeing as our vehicle is only 3 years old, but when we went to the Jeep dealership to fix it theft said it was the wiper computer module and would cost nearly 1000 dollars to fix. Unfortunately we did not have the money at the time to replace it.”

NHTSA complaint #10350786, filed 2010-08, 99,000 miles

“July 2011: submitted my vehicle to my local mechanic for a scheduled oil change and was advised that the ball bearing assembly was so structurally inept that the front wheels could be detached from the vehicle. Repairs were made as was a major safety issue. Nov 2011: about 4,000 miles later our Jeep was scheduled another oil change, and the same mechanic noticed that since our last service the tie rods were in need of replacement. My mechanic advised that this is not typical of a vehicle that has total 49,000 miles and could not have predicted such issues between routine service appointments.”

NHTSA complaint #10434029, filed 2011-11, 45,064 miles

“Vehicle stalls and steering locks up. This happened twice when I was turning and almost got in an accident both times somebody is going to get killed! Serious safety issue !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”
