“I am writing to report a severe safety defect regarding my 2018 Jeep Renegade. The vehicle suffers from an extreme internal oil consumption defect, burning 1 quart of oil every 1,000 miles. According to certified automotive diagnostics, this is five times the normal operating rate. This rapid oil depletion causes the vehicle to abruptly lose power, stall, and completely shut down while driving in active traffic without warning. Sudden engine failure at highway speeds creates an immediate, critical risk of collisions. The vehicle’s history directly matches documented manufacturer issues. …”
NHTSA complaint #11742647, filed 2026-06, 109,465 miles“My stalled 3 times in 2 weeks. Twice I was slowing to take a turn-this happened a week apart in the same exact turn. Twice I was driving about 20 MPH. This happened on 4-21-19, 4-27-19 and 4-30-19. I have approx 5200 miles. I called chrysler and they said there were no recalls, that I probably do not need an oil change (she checked on this information). When the light goes on or 7-8,000 miles I should schedule one. No dash indicator lights come on. Each time I am able to guide my car out of traffic. …”
NHTSA complaint #11204954, filed 2019-05, 5,200 miles“Jeep stopped accelerating on the interstate going 75 on cruise control; we were in the passing line with semi trucks behind us so we has nothing choice but to pull over to the left shoulder until we could safely move the car to the right shoulder. Car continued to run, but would not accelerate. No check engine light. Car was towed to a dealership, diagnostic did not show any issues; I was told that it happened because it was hot and because I drove it more than 5 hours. Jeep is stuck 12 hrs from where I live and there are no parts available. …”
NHTSA complaint #11222551, filed 2019-06, 8,000 miles“A few weeks after I first bought my new car (june 2018) after starting it, the radio would sometimes not come on or the volume control knob would not work. Then recently several months ago (april 2020) the 12v cigarette lighter in my car stopped working (car in park, just started). Turned car off, and then it would not start again. It seemed like all power was lost to the car. No lights would come on inside either. It just wouldn't do anything at all when trying to start it. The 15 fuse was replaced in the dash box, and it then started fine again. That lasted for a couple months. …”
NHTSA complaint #11352701, filed 2020-09, 33,000 miles“I purchased a 2018 Jeep Renegade at the end of july 2018, it had worked well until the end of june 2019. I was on a road trip from south carolina to colorado and I was on the road for a week with no issues, but on june 28th as I was driving on I-70 through kansas at about 80 MPH when my engine began to stall out. At first it was dropping about 10 - 15 MPH, but then it was quickly dropping 30 - 40 MPH. I was able to make it into the right most lane, but a check engine light and service transmission light appeared on my dashboard while my engine stalled out completely. …”
