Example complaints

Selected from NHTSA records; personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

“The spare tire holder mounted on the rear bumper broke while traveling on the interstate at 70 MPH in heavy traffic. We were shocked to see how light it was made after it broke. No injuries happen but this could have easily turned out differently. We did not find our spare tire.”

NHTSA complaint #10885387, filed 2016-07, 2,000 miles

“I have a 2015 Keystone Cougar fifth wheel trailer and had a failure of the spare tire carrier that is mounted to the bumper of a pull out bike/storage tray. The spare tire carrier broke off and the tire could have caused terrible danger to another vehicle, but fortunately that did not occur. I got no response from Keystone or guidance on how to resolve the issue. I see that there was a recall in 2/25/10 for the same issue on Keystone fifth wheels. How does this keep happening. I am unsure how to mount the spare tire safely now and Keystone will not help. …”
