“Started to leave for a trip with our 2010 Keystone Cougar 27ft 5th Wheel, got about a block away and the trailer overhang portion was started to come down on the back of our truck so drove back home and unhooked the trailer. Discovered that we have a flex frame issue, broken welds in the overhang portion. Total failure of the pin box while towing! Posed significant road hazard if we had continued driving. The whole overhang portion would have fallen on top of our truck and caused a wreck. Opened a case file with Keystone about the upper deck frame flex failure. …”
NHTSA complaint #11736157, filed 2026-05“The contact owns a 2010 Keystone Cougar light weight fifth wheel travel trailer. While driving 65 MPH the trailer hitch caused the spare tire to fall off due to the its weight and the way it was welded onto the rv. The manufacturer was contacted and informed him to take it to a repair shop and have it inspected. The failure mileage was 2,000. Updated 02/10/11 the rear bumper cracked at the welds causing rear bumper with the spare tire mount to fold down and drag on the highway. Updated 05/06/11”
