“In October 2025, my drivers seat began to move forward and fold on its own. I was sitting in the seat and crushed. I was able to free myself. I might have photos. I did call Kia. For a second time maybe a month ago, I was undoing my son's car seat from the latch and the seat began to fold up and pinned my neck and arm. I thought I was going to die. This was a rear passenger seat.”

NHTSA complaint #11740877, filed 2026-05

“When operating the vehicle the driver seat will move diagonally from the right rear to the right front and back. This is sometimes accompanied by an audible clicking noise, other times not. We have been informed by our Kia dealer (Kia Englewood in Englewood, NJ) that the noise and movement are cause by a plate in the seat assembly being to thin causing it to flex and move. Dealer stated that other vehicles in the same model line (EV9) are demonstrating the same failure and that the dealer expects a recall to be issued.”

NHTSA complaint #11616810, filed 2024-09

“The contact owns a 2024 Kia EV9. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the front driver's side seat detached from the frame. Due to the failure, the contact was unable to reach the brake pedal, and almost lost control of the vehicle. In addition, the contact’s mother and minor children were also occupants of the vehicle at the time of the failure. The contact was now concerned about the safety of the vehicle and was afraid to drive the vehicle. …”

NHTSA complaint #11676249, filed 2025-07, 6 miles

“The contact owns a 2024 Kia EV9. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the middle-row passenger’s side seat failed to remain secured. The contact stated that due to the failure the middle row passenger seated in the seat was moving forwards and backwards because the seat failed to remain secured. The contact stated that the dealer nor an independent mechanic was contacted. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or independent mechanic to be diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 35,701.”

NHTSA complaint #11642002, filed 2025-02, 35,701 miles

“The drivers side seat has a broken part in the right back. The part makes noise when turns make the body shift right. Also, it feels like the seat back is partially disconnected, and some times during drives, it feels like it shifts back into the correct position.”
