Example complaints

Brakes: “Land rover disco 2 2000 ABS light comes on, and the ABS becomes inoperative. I did speak with a mechanic in my province and they have a lot of problem with this part they changed many of them charging the clients. There is a website specialized on Land Rover and many many many have the same problem. Yes it is a default in my point of view.”

NHTSA complaint #10146327, filed 2005-12, 60,000 miles

Transmission and drivetrain: “I own a 2000 Land Rover discovery. Currently, it has 67,000 miles on it and I purchased it at 60,000 miles. Shortly after my 60,000 mile check at the dealer, the drive shaft and u joints had to be replaced. Without warning, I lost power and had to pull to the side of the road. I am not in warranty, but my local mechanic stated that this is a very common problem with land rovers (even low-mileage ones). I think Land Rover should recall these vehicles and fix this seemingly ubiquitous problem.”

NHTSA complaint #10236547, filed 2008-07, 67,000 miles

Electrical system: “Various warning lights activated including ABS light, indicating failure of the systems on my 2000 Land Rover Discovery Ii. Privately retained mechanic identified the ecu as the problem and also located a recall notice regarding this problem. Local Land Rover dealership stated that the recall was not valid and that they put these on the internet all the time. Land rover north america was contacted via e-mail and telephone message and has not responded. …”

NHTSA complaint #10066334, filed 2004-04, 68,000 miles

Engine cooling: “I have a 2000 Land Rover discovery, which I love and despite that my vehicle has been in the shop many times, (almost every few months) I still love my truck, so I bought my husband one also, he has a 2001 Land Rover, but just recently I had to have my vehicle towed to the dealership. And I was told my engine sized and I have to replace the heads or the complete engine, this was all caused from a coolant leak in my throttle body, and the vehicle never gave a warning that my engine was running to hot or to cold, that is why there is a gage on the dash to provide this information. …”
