“I was driving down the road and my power steering stopped working. I could have caused a crash because I could not turn the steering wheel, but I was able to pull over on the highway. There is a recall out for this problem but for some reason my dealership and Land Rover in Scarborough Maine have said my VIN# is not part of the recall #N642 and repair will cost me $4,600.00. My mechanic has looked at my vehicle and the 3 bolts that hold the power steering pump in are all corroded and broke off. I have the parts and anyone can come take a look. There were no warning lights or messages.”
NHTSA complaint #11677932, filed 2025-08“The contact owns a 2016 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque. The contact stated that while driving 45-55 MPH, the vehicle lost power steering functionality. There was an abnormal grinding sound while turning the steering wheel. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, who determined that the power steering motor mount had become loosened. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 61,000.”
