Example complaints

Selected from NHTSA records; personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

“I was driving with traffic in a 35 mph zone on a moderately busy street. I got the alert to brake and did so immediately. I collided with the Jeep in front of me. The airbags did not deploy. The front hood of the car tented and a fire immediately broke out under the hood. When a policeman arrived he attempted unsuccessfully to put out the fire with a fire extinguisher. The fire was eventually extinguished when the fire department arrived. The car was towed away. The insurance adjuster said the car was totaled.”

“Fuel system and could be made available upon request. Explosion issue. No. Took it to the Lexus dealership where I bought it. No. When I got home I turned off the car. I later returned to my garage and it was filled with the strong odor of gasoline. The car was towed later that night to the dealership where it sat outside for 2 days. Dealership couldn't replicate the problem and gave me the car back. I did not imagine that smell. Even the tow company driver smelled the issue! I am fearful the issue could recur with catastrophic results.”
