“The headlights suddenly turned off when the consumer was driving at night. The lights would come on when the manual switch was on. While driving at night at highway speeds, the lights went out. The lights came back on by use of the on switch. Dealer stated that they have no idea how to fix this problem.”
NHTSA complaint #10109166, filed 2005-01, 97,000 miles“The low beam headlights are insufficient due to the dulling of internal components as the result of an apparent design defect. The mfg. Used a 9005 bulb with a diffuser. The bulb and diffuser generate excessive heat and have dulled the reflective material inside the headlamp assembly. The 9005 bulb is a high beam bulb used, in this case, in a low beam assembly. I urge the NHTSA to investigate this matter as it seems to be a common complaint coupled with a serious safety hazard.”
NHTSA complaint #10074500, filed 2004-05, 89,000 miles“There is a plastic headlight cover on several models of ford products. The plastic cover discolors with age and cuts down on the light that is emitted. It appears that the discoloration gets worse with age and will one day block most of the light. Later models now have a glass cover that does not discolor.”
NHTSA complaint #10023881, filed 2003-06“Consumer states the head light lenses are discolored causing poor visibility when driving at night. The manufacturer has been contacted. Consumer adds at any speed, a 2-car length distance of illumination is way too short for personal safety and driver response time.”
NHTSA complaint #8010731, filed 2002-05“Headlight switch was faulty. When activated, head lights did not illuminate. For high beams to be activated, consumer had to hold the switch with her hand. Also, windshield washer switch did not work due to a faulty electrical system. The dealer has been contacted.”
