“After we hit a deer, we noticed that the car vibrated when shifting, when explaining this to repair service, they stated that they doubt it was caused by the accident because they had heard of a lot of problem with a plate or disc that is inthe transmission of the town cars that cracks. When the car warms up it will vibrate when it tries to shift.”
NHTSA complaint #721117, filed 2000-04“The range sensor which ispart of transmission is failing causing vehicle to shift in and out of gear while traveling intermittenly. Eventually transmission will fail or consumer will ended up losing control of vehicle. Manufacture sent out a campaign #95b64 for 1993 towncar but did not included the 1994 towncar which is same exact problem.”
NHTSA complaint #874516, filed 2000-11“While cruising at speed, usually on interstate - vehicle encounters slight hill. Transmission attempts to shift and transmission disengages, or transmission downshifts violently and unexpectedly. This causes the car to accelerate rapidly challenging the driver for control of the vehicle. Transmission in for diagnostic twice at l/m dealers, once at aamco - diagnostics/tests show no defect. Lincoln mercury will do maintenance cycles but refuses to admit/engage problem.”
NHTSA complaint #711128, filed 2000-04“Consumer would be driving 40 MPH whien a loud noise can be heard comming from under the hood. Vehicle would vibrate badly when shifting gears. Been to dealer about noise and told coming from the manifold intake. No cause found for vibration.”
NHTSA complaint #848618, filed 1999-09“Found a leak took to dealer first time need gasket , brought car home there was another leak took back there was a rear seal oil stop leak, currently transmission failure, transmission would disengage into neutral and there is a noise .”
