“While driving on the highway after just drop off my daughter, I proceeded back on the highway and the transmission just threw me in park. I put the car in park. Then I put in gear and it was driving fine and then the hold light started flashing. While driving home it was fine and then again it started all over.”
NHTSA complaint #10541690, filed 2013-09, 162,000 miles“There is something wrong with my 1995 Mazda 626's transmission. It is only at 93,000 miles, and I think the transmission is shot. It shifts very hard into gear. When it is in drive, sometimes it shifts into neutral if I am idling. I usually have to shift it into neutral and then back into drive for it to get back in gear. I am taking it to get checked out tonight.”
NHTSA complaint #10245724, filed 2008-10, 92,500 miles“Transmission failed. Jerky or no reaction when placing into gear. The car, while in an intersection, acted like it was out of gear. Then, suddenly, it jerked into gear. The transmission seemed like it regained normalcy when I slowed down and it seemed to disengage from the engine. I coasted to a stop. The vehicle is a 1995 Mazda 626 and has 86588 miles.”
NHTSA complaint #10140387, filed 2005-10, 86,588 miles“Automatic transmission slipped little by little then making a left turn on to interstate ramp, transmission completely goes out and leaves me coasting in front of on-coming traffic for about 7 seconds. Now car does that about everyday and has put me in some sticky situations. Was told my dealer that new transmission was needed.”
NHTSA complaint #10140267, filed 2005-10, 167,000 miles“Overdrive light started to flash at around 70k miles, then stopped. Then started and stopped for the next 20k miles after which my transmission is leaking oil and my mechanic told me the overdrive is burnt. I looked on the web and found out that the Mazda 626 '95 transmission is poorly designed because it does not properly cool the transmission oil.”
