“While driving at a speed just under 45 mph, my Mazda CX-70 suddenly displayed and chimed “Hybrid System Malfunction. Have Vehicle Inspected.“. This warning startled me because I am familiar with issues since I had briefly owned a CX-90 PHEV the first year this model came out and it had the same exact problem. I discovered that this issue carries serious safety concerns and ended up convincing the dealer to swap the vehicle for a CX-90 inline 6 gas only model after hours of pleading. …”

NHTSA complaint #11740990, filed 2026-05

“After starting the vehicle and driving it for a short distance, I forgot to disable the engine start/stop function. When the engine shut down, I pressed the button to disable it as I loathe this feature. The button would not respond, resulting in the engine repeatedly shutting down during coasting events and limiting the functionality of my AC. I tried multiple times during my 45-minute drive to disable it, but was unable to. I shut the vehicle off and restarted it when I was safely stopped. The system worked as intended after this action. …”

NHTSA complaint #11679575, filed 2025-08

“This has been happening for over 6 months but it's getting worse. When moving at a lower speed, 10-20 mph, the motor or transmission is jerky and sluggish. This makes it very slow to move when pulling out from red lights or when in stop and go traffic on the highway. (Might as well be pulling out from the light in an 18 Wheeler.) I haven't taken to the dealer because from my experience, unless there is a code to look up, it's just money (and time) wasted. No, the vehicle has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others. …”

NHTSA complaint #11669537, filed 2025-06

“Vehicle Information I am reporting multiple persistent safety-related defects in my 2025 Mazda CX-70 that began immediately after purchase and continue despite repeated service visits, software updates (including MSP66 on July 9, 2026), and good-faith repair attempts. These defects substantially impair the vehicle’s safety, drivability, reliability, and security. • Warning Lights & Phantom Braking: Brake messages and related warnings on the cluster appeared on the drive home from the dealership shortly after purchase, even with no obstacles present. Intermittent false warnings have continued. …”

NHTSA complaint #11752344, filed 2026-07

“Safety Issue: Gear box unexpectedly disengaged while driving at highway speeds, between 60 and 70 mph. This occurred without warning and under normal road and operating conditions. Driver was unable to accelerate or decelerate vehicle. Driver did not have forward propulsion of vehicle at time of incidents (this happened more than once), and therefore, this is an extreme safety issue.”
