What owners report

Owners of this 2025 Mazda CX-70 most often report blind spot alerts that appear with no vehicle nearby, or fail to warn when a car is present. Steering that jerks or pulls during lane changes, and driver assist braking or slowing without a clear reason, form the next main groups. Sudden power loss or hesitation is also reported, and because the model is new, these reports are early and may change over time.

  1. Lane departure

Blind spot alerts appear with no car, or are missed

    • 13 complaints (25%)
    • median 2,500 mi at 0.0 yrs old (1 states mileage, few)
    • 1 mention a crash, fire or injury
    • filed 2024–2026

Owners describe the side blind spot warning lighting up, or beeping, with no vehicle nearby, sometimes continuing even during a lane change. Some describe the alert coming on intermittently at highway speeds, and some say it stays on for long stretches. Other complaints describe the reverse problem, in which the warning does not appear when a car is in the blind spot during a merge, and say it seems to work only for cars behind rather than beside. Some owners say they have stopped trusting the alerts, and a complaint says the system seems to get worse over time. In some cases the dealer could not duplicate the problem, while in other cases the blind spot sensors were reported as failed. Few complaints list mileage, and the listed reading is about 2,500 miles, while others describe alerts that began soon after purchase and often occur at highway speeds.

    1 related service bulletin

What to check: Ask whether the blind spot monitoring control module bulletin on power supply noise has been applied, and whether the system has been checked for warnings with no vehicle present. On a highway test drive, check whether the side warning lights come on when the lane beside you is clear.

2 excerpts from owner complaints in NHTSA records

“Multiple times when there is a car on my left or right blind spot and I am merging into their lane the warning does not go off and has caused me to nearly collide with the cars without my intervention. The warnings only work if the cars are behind me not adjacently. This is misleading because the , i-ACTIVSENSE says its 360 degrees, but its not alerting or warning to cars to my left or right. I do not trust the safety systems.”

    NHTSA complaint #11706775, filed 2025-12

“I have put on over 20,000 miles since I purchased new in September 2024. The entire time of ownership, I have dealt with false blind spot warnings. With a clean car/clean sensors, it doesn't matter the time of day/night... when driving at highway speeds, the right rear blind spot warning comes on intermittently even when driving in the right lane of interstate with only the shoulder of the interstate next to me and no other obstructions. …”

    NHTSA complaint #11717643, filed 2026-02
  2. Steering

Steering jerks, pulls or fights driver input

    • 7 complaints (13%)
    • median 19,000 mi at 1.4 yrs old (1 states mileage, few)
    • filed 2025–2026

Owners describe the steering wheel jerking or pulling sideways during lane changes, on bends, or over bumps, sometimes with a warning message that asks the driver to hold the wheel. Some complaints describe the lane assist acting on its own and fighting the driver, so that the driver has to push back to keep control. Other complaints describe the wheel sticking and not returning to center after a turn, which can require pushing or jerking the wheel to drive straight. A complaint says the lane keep feature was off when the wheel jerked, and that the vehicle was towed to a dealer for investigation. Few complaints list mileage, and the listed reading is about 19,000 miles, while others describe the wheel moving during lane changes, on bends, and over bumps.

What to check: Ask whether any lane keep assist or steering software updates have been applied, and whether the dealer has logged any steering concerns for this vehicle. On a test drive in a safe place, check that the wheel returns to center smoothly and that lane keep assist does not pull the wheel during a gentle lane change.

2 excerpts from owner complaints in NHTSA records

“Lane assist system acts on it's own and attempts to override my input. It can be very jarring especially at high speeds. I notice the issue mostly when I'm on the highway/freeway and attempting to lane change or take an exit ramp. The system trys to correct my steering and I have to briefly fight against it to maintain control.”

    NHTSA complaint #11730348, filed 2026-04

“While attempting to change lanes on I-75 southbound, one lane to the left of my current position, I was enforced and the steering wheel pulled back to the right. I was navigating a right-hand curve on the interstate and moving past slower traffic at 81 mph. My turn signal was activated, the lane departure system deactivated, and the signal was still flashing as the lane change was executed. The turn signal should suspend enforcement as well as the system being deactivated. Both interlocks failed to operate. …”

    NHTSA complaint #11679573, filed 2025-08
  3. Forward collision avoidance

Unexpected braking or slowing from driver assist

    • 19 complaints (37%)
    • median 1,300 mi at 0.0 yrs old (2 state mileage, few)
    • 2 mention a crash, fire or injury
    • filed 2024–2026

Owners describe automatic braking or slowing that they say had no clear trigger, such as when no other vehicles were nearby, in a parking garage, or at a four-way stop. Some complaints describe the car decelerating by a noticeable amount when moving into an open lane with adaptive cruise control on, instead of resuming the set speed. Owners say following drivers may be surprised by the slowdown, and that a rear-end collision was possible in some cases. Some complaints say the problem continued after the vehicle was taken to a dealer for service. The complaints do not give an odometer reading, and the events are described during routine driving, such as passing under an overpass, in a parking garage, or after changing lanes with adaptive cruise control on.

What to check: Ask whether the forward collision and adaptive cruise software updates have been applied, and whether the dealer can review any stored braking events. On a test drive in light traffic, watch whether the car slows on its own when the road is clear, and whether it resumes speed normally after a lane change with adaptive cruise on.

2 excerpts from owner complaints in NHTSA records

“Vehicle Information I am reporting multiple persistent safety-related defects in my 2025 Mazda CX-70 that began immediately after purchase and continue despite repeated service visits, software updates (including MSP66 on July 9, 2026), and good-faith repair attempts. These defects substantially impair the vehicle’s safety, drivability, reliability, and security. …”

    NHTSA complaint #11752344, filed 2026-07

“The vehicle has engaged the automatic braking feature multiple times while in a parking garage and when in the middle of a four-way stop despite there being no cross traffic or moving vehicles around my vehicle. In two instances, there was a vehicle behind mine that the breaking could have led to me being rear-ended and in the case of the four-way stop, there were other vehicles waiting to cross that could have hit me from behind or on the side. …”

    NHTSA complaint #11736754, filed 2026-05
  4. Transmission and drivetrain

Sudden power loss, hesitation, or jerky drive

    • 14 complaints (27%)
    • median 12,000 mi at 0.7 yrs old (4 state mileage, few)
    • 1 mention a crash, fire or injury
    • filed 2024–2026

Owners describe the vehicle suddenly losing motive power or shutting off while driving, sometimes with a warning light, and in some cases being unable to restart it. Other complaints describe a gearbox that disengaged at highway speed, leaving no forward propulsion, and hesitation or delayed torque when accelerating from a stop. Some describe jerky, sluggish motion at low speed in stop-and-go traffic. According to the complaints, dealers diagnosed a failed battery or fuel tank sensor in some cases, and a vehicle was repaired more than once for the same failure. Mileage given in these complaints ranges from about 5,000 to 38,000 miles, and some events happened at highway speeds or while stopping at a stop sign.

What to check: Ask whether the powertrain control module and inverter software recalls have been completed for this vehicle, and whether any engine warning light history has been reviewed. On a test drive, check for hesitation when pulling away from a stop and confirm that no hybrid or engine warning message appears.

2 excerpts from owner complaints in NHTSA records

“This has been happening for over 6 months but it's getting worse. When moving at a lower speed, 10-20 mph, the motor or transmission is jerky and sluggish. This makes it very slow to move when pulling out from red lights or when in stop and go traffic on the highway. (Might as well be pulling out from the light in an 18 Wheeler.) I haven't taken to the dealer because from my experience, unless there is a code to look up, it's just money (and time) wasted. …”

    NHTSA complaint #11669537, filed 2025-06

“Safety Issue: Gear box unexpectedly disengaged while driving at highway speeds, between 60 and 70 mph. This occurred without warning and under normal road and operating conditions. Driver was unable to accelerate or decelerate vehicle. Driver did not have forward propulsion of vehicle at time of incidents (this happened more than once), and therefore, this is an extreme safety issue.”

    NHTSA complaint #11694630, filed 2025-10

Buying note. Blind spot and lane assist behavior is the most frequent theme for this model year, so a highway test drive that checks alert accuracy and steering response is a practical step. Asking whether the software updates and powertrain recalls have been completed, and reviewing the service history for power or warning light events, can help a buyer judge the vehicle.

Summary written with AI from a sample of 47 NHTSA complaints for this model year (picked at random, with complaints that state a mileage and recent ones taken first), then checked automatically against the source records. Where a problem shows a complaint count, every complaint for this model year was matched with fixed keyword rules (written with AI and tested against the sample), and the mileage, age and repair figures are calculated from those complaints; owners' figures are as stated, not verified. Other counts refer to the sample. The excerpts come from NHTSA's public complaint records and are unverified; capitalisation is normalised, NHTSA staff notes are removed, and shortened text ends with “…”. Something wrong? Example complaints

Lane departure: “Within 100 days of purchasing the CX70 new ,we noticed that the collision avoidance system was malfunctioning . It would alert when no car was near us . It did not alert every time a car was actually in our right blind spot or moving through our right blind spot . The malfunctions were random and happened in a variation of conditions and driving situations . We began to mistrust the system and continually disregarded many of its alerts . …”

NHTSA complaint #11760122, filed 2026-08

Forward collision avoidance: “This has occurred numerous times. Using the adaptive cruise control, the vehicle decelerates as I approach a slower moving vehicle. That is what it should do. When I move from the right lane to the open left lane, instead of accelerating back to the set cruise speed, the car decelerates as much as 10 mph before finally regaining its mind and accelerating to the set speed. I have had cars following me that are expecting my car to accelerate that are surprised that the car decelerates. This happens on straight roads with no car ahead of me in the left lane.”

NHTSA complaint #11740937, filed 2026-05

Transmission and drivetrain: “While driving at a speed just under 45 mph, my Mazda CX-70 suddenly displayed and chimed “Hybrid System Malfunction. Have Vehicle Inspected.“. This warning startled me because I am familiar with issues since I had briefly owned a CX-90 PHEV the first year this model came out and it had the same exact problem. I discovered that this issue carries serious safety concerns and ended up convincing the dealer to swap the vehicle for a CX-90 inline 6 gas only model after hours of pleading. …”

NHTSA complaint #11740990, filed 2026-05

Engine: “On the morning of January 28, 2026 I arrived to work and came to a complete stop in my works parking garage. I used my key card to raise the gate. Once the gate was fully raised I pressed the accelerator to drive up the ramp. Shortly after accelerating, my engine revved really loud and high rate, then my car automatically increased speed. I immediately pressed the brake pedal but it didn’t stop. It continued accelerating at a speed not controlled by me with my brakes not engaging even though I was pressing the brake as hard as could. …”
