Example complaints

Electrical system: “While traveling approximately 70–80 mph on a heavily traveled interstate with significant commercial truck traffic, the vehicle suddenly stopped responding normally to accelerator input. I pressed the accelerator pedal fully multiple times, but the vehicle would not accelerate. I was traveling with my mother and young child and was able to safely move the vehicle to the shoulder. After shutting the vehicle off and restarting it, a high-voltage battery temperature warning briefly appeared on the instrument display for several seconds and then disappeared. …”

NHTSA complaint #11768597, filed 2026-10

Fuel system: “I am reporting a fuel odor concern with my Mazda CX-90. After driving the vehicle and pulling it into my attached garage, I noticed a strong gasoline/fuel smell coming from the vehicle. I reported this to the Mazda dealership's service department. They told me Mazda is aware of the fuel smell for several years now and that it is coming from the EVAP system/canister. They explained that the EVAP system has openings that allow it to vent and that this venting is causing the fuel smell. The service department told me they have contacted Mazda corporate about this issue in the past. …”

NHTSA complaint #11764492, filed 2026-09

Other or unknown: “I am reporting a safety defect involving my Mazda CX-90 with approximately 1,400 miles. The vehicle emits strong chemical fumes into the passenger cabin during normal operation. I first noticed it the night I purchased the vehicle when I was driving it home. The fumes occur both with and without the HVAC system in use. Once present, the odor lingers inside the cabin for an extended period, even after the vehicle is turned off. The exposure causes physical symptoms, including headaches, burning eyes, watering, and irritation while driving. …”

NHTSA complaint #11725358, filed 2026-03

Steering: “On multiple occasions, the steering wheel became stiff or locked while driving or during start-up, multiple dashboard warning lights illuminated, and the vehicle could not be shifted from Park to Drive. This occurred repeatedly since the vehicle was purchased. The dealer inspected the vehicle multiple times; on the first attempts they could not duplicate the issue. …”
