Example complaints

Transmission and drivetrain: “Loud clunk in the drive train. Took it in and found the transfer case had leaked enough oil for large parts to be dislodged. Looked and found there was a TSB on the issue but was never notified. In searching the internet, I have found numerous people who have experienced the same issue. Mazda is aware of this issue but does not contact the owners of the car. The resulting repair is very expensive and, I feel there is a chance of transfer case lock up and possible loss of control.”

NHTSA complaint #10470031, filed 2012-08, 51,000 miles

Air bags: “Takata recall. The contact owns a 2007 Mazda speed6. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign numbers: 15v382000 (air bags) and 16v354000 (air bags). The parts to do the repairs were unavailable. The manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repairs. The manufacturer was not notified. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.”

NHTSA complaint #10908193, filed 2016-09

Engine cooling: “The contact owns a 2007 Mazda speed 6. While driving at various speeds the vehicle shimmies and hesitates before vehicle acceleration. Also the engine warning light was illuminated on the instrument control panel. A technician from the dealer advised him to disconnect the battery over night to delete the error code. Since the battery was disconnected the failure occurred intermittently. Since the technicians could not duplicate the failure, they could not provide a remedy. The failure mileage was 5000. The current mileage was 30565.”

NHTSA complaint #10291973, filed 2009-11, 5,000 miles

Suspension: “After starting to drive my car to the top of my street which was only 15 feet from my driveway, I hear a loud clunk from the rear of the car. After taking my car to the dealership the diagnosed the problem was a sheered rear differential front mount bolt. The problem is Mazda knows about this issue and have a reinforcement kit to fix it. This is a problem since it seems like it is a design flaw in the equipment and Mazda has failed to recall this product since no one has filed complaint or been in accident (thankfully) due to this issue.”
