Example complaints

Selected from NHTSA records; personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

“After returning home from work at approximately 4:10pm I noticed two puddles in front of the drivers side rear tire. After kneeling down and placing 2 fingers in one of the fist size puddles, I determined it was gas. The vehicle has not been driven in excess of 10 days, and its very odd to suddenly begin leaking while the car is stationary.”

NHTSA complaint #10689713, filed 2015-02, 217,193 miles

“My mint condition w210 '00 E320 mercedes caught fire last week while my wife was pulling into her high rise office garage in downtown seattle. Fortunately, she was able to escape without injury before the fire grew and consumed the whole engine compartment. This engine fire started on its own with no outside factors. This car had been fully maintained during my 11 year ownership by mercedes of bellevue and mercedes of seattle. The car only had 155,000 miles on it, still fairly low mileage compared to the other mercedes I have owned over the years. …”

NHTSA complaint #10630918, filed 2014-09, 155,000 miles

“The vehicle fuel cap would not come off the tank. Forcibly remove the fuel cap, replaced with a new $35 cap purchased from the mercedes dealer and the same exact thing occurred.”

NHTSA complaint #10653203, filed 2014-11, 300,000 miles

“Fuel gauge indicates low fuel level when the tank is full and indicates full tank when there is no fuel. Fuel sending unit replaced 2 times already. The first time on 02/01/00 with only 1064 miles on the car. The second time on 01/29/02 with 19175 miles on the car. A brief search on the internet found many other owners of Mercedes-Benz cars had similar fuel sending unit problem. However, Mercedes-Benz continues to say there is no problem with the fuel sending unit in their cars.”
