“My 2019 Mercedes-Benz Metris, with approximately 78,000 miles, developed a check-engine light and diagnostic code P052E/P052E71 for a failure involving the positive crankcase ventilation/crankcase ventilation regulator system. I was advised that the repair will cost approximately $3,000 because the failed ventilation component is part of a larger assembly. I am concerned because Mercedes-Benz has acknowledged this same P052E71 crankcase ventilation failure on other Mercedes-Benz models equipped with the M274 engine and has provided extended warranty coverage on certain vehicles. …”

NHTSA complaint #11763551, filed 2026-09

“A check engine light on a Mercedes-Benz Metris, accompanied by a P052E code, often indicates a problem with the Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) system, specifically the PCV regulator valve or its associated components. This code signals that the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) has detected an issue with the crankcase pressure, suggesting a malfunction in the PCV system's ability to regulate pressure.”
