Example complaints

Selected from NHTSA records; personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

“Head lights when off. I turned them to the auto setting and they would work for a short time and go off. Then they wouldn't work no mater were you set them. Wiper came on by themselves and I had to pull the fuse to stop them, when I needed the wipers I have to replace the fuse. Then when I try to turn them off they stop in the drivers view if they stop at all. Sometimes they would work right and then not at all. The wiper water pump would not work either. Now it's working again.”

“This is on my 2003 Mercury Grand Marquis gs. The light processor failed and my headlights went out after driving the vehicle for 5 to 10 minutes. They continue to do this until the system would reset, taking 15 to 30 seconds. This also happen on my 1997 ford crown vic fire chiefs car when I had that vehicle. Both vehicles needed to have the light processor replaced costing over $500.00. My mechanic stated that when he called the dealer they stated that they always keep 3 or 4 in stock because this is a problem. My question is why is this not a recall item??? …”

“Driver seatbelt was replaced (bad maybe) and air bag light came on immediately after seat belt was replaced wipers turn on by themselves and will not turn off.”

NHTSA complaint #11119394, filed 2018-08, 107,000 miles

“My 2003 Mercury Grand Marquis has had an issue with the lighting module for the headlights. The headlights will not turn on anymore and from what I see from others complaints about this model is that the majority of the complaints with this vehicle are with the same issue! I really hope that this issue becomes a recall since obviously they are aware of how many people are having this problem. Do you know how hard it is not to be able to drive at night?! Let alone when it's rainy or foggy out. I have young children what if theres an emergency?? …”

NHTSA complaint #10778595, filed 2015-09

“The contact owns a 2003 Mercury Grand Marquis. The contact stated that the windshield wipers operated independently. The contact mentioned that the fuse was removed to prevent the windshield wipers from operating. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 120,000.”
