NHTSA complaint #10020373, filed 2003-05, 241 miles

“On three occasions when the gear was placed into drive the vehicle would lurch forward or when the brakes were applied the same thing would occur causing the tires to screech. The vehicle was taken to dealers who determined that the gas and brake pedals were to close to each other. When depressing one pedal the other pedal was also applied. The dealers also determined that because the pedals were in close proximity it would cause the vehicle to unintentionally accelerate. The dealers contacted the manufacturer who confirmed that there were no recalls on this issue. Updated 7/14/2006 -”

NHTSA complaint #10160963, filed 2006-06, 18,091 miles

“While waiting for red the light to change, the vehicle suddenly accelerated. The driver could not maintain control, the vehicle jumped the curb and crashed into a ditch. There was no diagnostic test performed on the vehicle. The air bag did not deploy, the electronic fuel shut off and did not engage and the seat belts did not tighten. The consumer was told that the adjustable pedals caused the accident and have caused a lot of accidents. Ford claimed that fault is the driver's fault due to their foot being on both pedals at the same time.”
