Example complaints

Selected from NHTSA records; personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

“I was coming to a stop when the brake pedal started vibrating and going lower and lower to the floor and the car did not stop resulting in an accident. I was told by the ford mechanic that the computer tests did not show any problem with the antilock system but I think there is a problem when you apply your brakes and the car does not stop. I have also talked to a number of people some of them who work on cars etc..and found out that this is not an uncommon problem. Furthermore, it happens a lot and on all types of vehicles with antilock systems. …”

But, dealer stated it was not important.”

“Front disc brakes squeaked and squealed excessively since the original purchase of the vehicle. Returned vehicle several times to dealer to correct problem. Dealer replaced front pads and turned rotors. Replacement pads were ford motorcraft pads. Braking power was noticeably reduced immediately after the ford motorcraft pads were installed. After another trip to the dealer, ford oem pads were installed. Braking power was restored to normal (original) levels, and the squeaking / squealing was gone. …”
