Example complaints

Selected from NHTSA records; personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

“Problems with upper and lower ball joints and tie rods. The parts were replaced, some of them twice. Ford put ungreased parts on. Eventually they dried out again and started squeaking. If not replaced they would possibly break which could cause the driver to lose control, possibly causing injury or death. The front brakes were resurfaced.”

“1998 Mercury Grand Marquis. Consumer states faulty rear brake pad replacement the consumer stated when his wife applied the brakes firmly, but not hard, the vehicle lunged forward striking a sign and damaging the right front of the vehicle. The consumer went to another dealer and they restored the brakes back to normal operation.”

NHTSA complaint #10350908, filed 2010-08

“Car pulls to the left when coming to a stop. Not always. Weather doesn't matter. Not due to crown on roads or ruts. Brought in for repairs 3 times. Make repairs suggested by manufacturer but didn't help. Consider a safty factor in mulit - lane traffic. Service department can not duplicate problem because it is intermitting which makes it hard to repair. No complaints about service department.”

NHTSA complaint #704191, filed 1999-03

“The od light on the dashboard is illuminated and it won't go out unless the vehicle is stopped and restarted, the dealer has stated that no harm could be done with this light being on.”

NHTSA complaint #558544, filed 2000-12

“Consumer stated while driving a chatter noise could be heard, upon inspection of the vehicle, consumer noticed that the right rear brake caliper piston was almost fully out of its cylinder and jammed slightly in a cocked position, the inner brake pad lining was completely worn away with its metal mount grinding away into the brake disc, consumer took the vehicle to the dealer and had the 2 rear disc and right rear caliper replaced, consumer believes there is a serious design flaw with the ABS-trac control brake system that would cause such a failure.”
