“Air control valve failure. This item not covered by my 90,000 mile warranty. Why not? Shop said an item that controls braking jammed causing the brakes in the front brakes not to retract after releasing pedal therefore destroying calipers pads & rotors. This item not covered by extended warranty either. Why not?”

NHTSA complaint #10071018, filed 2004-01, 72,000 miles

“Catastrophic brake failure on 2000 Mercury Grand Marquis. Involved power brakes, booster, ABS system. Caused minor injuries but total loss of two vehicles.”

NHTSA complaint #10272794, filed 2009-06, 59,000 miles

“Since new, the vehicle has had brake issues. After about one month, the brakes constantly squealed on aplication, degenerating into a hard contact rumble causing the steering wheel to vibrate. The dealer has service the vehicle three times and replaced the brakes twice. After every repair, the issues re-appear. I was told by the service manager of downtown lincoln Mercury to roll up my windows and turn up the radio . There is an obvious defect in the brakes and/or the braking system on this vehicle that ford does not know how to properly repair.”

NHTSA complaint #757058, filed 2002-01

“The contact stated when the cruise control was deactivated manually or deactivated by applying brake pressure, there was a loud popping noise. The dealership determined this was by pressure in the cruise control line. The contact expressed this problem was related to brake repair work performed by the dealership.”

NHTSA complaint #10164914, filed 2006-08, 63,196 miles

“Also at 45 MPH there is a front end shimmy. Only at that speed. Nothing frightening but wonder why, will it occurr again later at increased mileage. My biggest complant is the noise coming in left side from either front or rear door. Has been back to dealer four times and we live approx. 40 miles one way which is the closest dealer. I beleive something could be done if they have to take it to a wind tunnel testing station. Their attitude has been good but no corrections. Very disgusting for new car. I am ready to dispose if necessary. I have a good sound system for no avail.”
