“I have 5 locations where the paint is peeling off. Hood, roof and back window area. I have seen other gms and lincolns with the same peeling. The peeling areas a growing in size. Pieces of paint 1 inch sq comes off at a time. I should not have this problem on a 4 year old car. I think ford should fix the problem. I had a 1993 GM also with the same problem. But on the 93 car it started when the car was older.”

“I was driving on the ny thruway when I noticed the front of my hood was vibrating I had already traveled for over 200 miles I never opened or released the hood it came loose by itself, this has never happened before, I had to pull over in the break down lane to close it the hood had not been opened for service prior to this occasion.”

NHTSA complaint #10267631, filed 2009-05, 23,000 miles

“This is the third consecutive Mercury Grand Marquis I've owned that has developed a peeling paint problem (all purchased new). One instance of this I could chalk up to luck of the draw, a random defect. But three automobiles, same make, with the same problem? This defies the laws of random chance and indicates an ongoing quality control problem with these vehicles. This 2008 model Mercury Grand Marquis was purchased new and had about 55,000 miles on the odometer when I noticed the peeling paint. There is no reason ? Beyond shoddy quality control ? …”

NHTSA complaint #10479740, filed 2012-10, 55,000 miles

“Took car through car wash after winter and a large section of paint came off the hood..this is a florida car..it was the second winter in buffalo..also found other spots on car where paint is coming off...was looking for a newer Grand Marquis and a lot of them also had paint coming...all were the silver birch ...the paint doesn't appear to adhere to the primer...”

NHTSA complaint #11331379, filed 2020-06, 110,250 miles

“My Grand Marquis ls 2008 paint have cracked and falling off the hood, top, and back. It is rusted on top were the paint have peel off and now its starting on the hood. Took back to dealer and was told that the paint on car was not cover. It start peeling two month after we got the car didn't have them many miles. So what can be done about my car peeling paint. Every time you wash the car more paint coming off. After that the engine cooling system went out and they told me they are responsible.”
