“The tailgate hinges are breaking that hold the rear window, this is a safety hazard the window will fall out and could hit another vehicles windshield. There are numerous complaints regarding this issue, when you go to dealer they want 320.00 to repair and say they sell many of these brakets it really should have been recall. We have two cars with same defect.”
NHTSA complaint #11141744, filed 2018-10, 159,000 miles“Large rusting areas in back seat doors, rear wheel wheels and tailgate. Concern lies with rust that cant be seen weakening structural integrity of doors and/or wheel wells and/or tailgate. First noticed blistering paint in 2011 and the problem has grown since. Warranty was of no help. Have noticed similar patterns on numerous mariners of similar model years, so this has to be a manufacturer defect of some kind. Again concern lies mostly with rust that can't be seen.”
NHTSA complaint #10593234, filed 2014-05, 60,000 miles“The contact owns a 2008 Mercury Mariner. Upon starting the vehicle, the steering wheel was difficult to turn. Also, the interior fender was rusted. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and did not assist. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.”
NHTSA complaint #11171898, filed 2019-01, 100,000 miles“The contact owns a 2008 Mercury Mariner. The contact noticed that the subframe near the rear tires was corroded. The vehicle was taken to a collision center and the inspector stated that the frame above the rear tires was manufactured with a foam like substance. When it rained or when the vehicle was washed, the substance would absorb the water and caused the corrosion to spread inside out. The inspector also stated that the bumper could eventually separate from the vehicle. …”
NHTSA complaint #10632780, filed 2014-09, 66,000 miles“The contact owns a 2008 Mercury Mariner. While driving approximately 15 MPH, the front driver's side door fell off the vehicle. The contact had to pull the vehicle over and temporarily tie the door while driving the vehicle home. The vehicle was towed to the dealer and they stated that it was due to a manufacturer defect and was installed incorrectly. They replaced the driver's side upper hinge under warranty, but the contact believes that the failure should be recalled. The current and failure mileages were 35,800. Updated 3/16/09 updated 03/19/09.”
