“1994 Mercury Villager has exhaust and gas fumes in the passenger compartment. I've noticed 50 similar complaints on the NHTSA defect site. Local auto service shop and dealer service shops both have no idea what is causing the noxious fumes (dealer tightened a hose, but that did not work - charged $70)”

NHTSA complaint #10002818, filed 2003-01, 70,000 miles

“Please note that this safety defect involves a sudden and unexpected failure of air condition pipes/hoses. This can cause a potentially life threatening problem to the occupants of the vehicle. The air conditioner is an integral part of the defroster and its failure may and could lead to zero or no visibility very quickly. The air conditioner in many vehicles is a necessity for the health and safety of the operator and passengers. In my situation, my wife has a very serious life threatening medical condition. The lack of air conditioning may exacerbate that situation. …”

NHTSA complaint #710460, filed 1999-08

“Electrical failures have caused short circuit in both driver's side and passenger's side windows, and rear driver's side and passenger side windows. Also, rear defroster and air conditioner did not work. Consumer has contacted dealer, dealer unable to determine cause. Please provide any further details.”

NHTSA complaint #884536, filed 2001-03

“Having problem with the back heater not working at all. Transmission has a slow shift and will shift hard when down shifting, sterring wheel get hard when temp. Are in the teen,s. Cluck noises when hitting light bumps. Brakes grind when brakes are cold. Radio will loose memory. Heater switch when one 1, makes a ticking noise. Sliding door gets hard to close. Gas tank, have to turn cap slowly so gas air will leak out. Check engine light appears then goes out.”

NHTSA complaint #10070101, filed 2004-01
