“I am the owner of a Mercury Villager 1994 minivan and I never received a notice about the recall involving leaking gas. I have a strong gas odor in my vehicle and my mechanic thought it was a bad gas cap but the fumes are still there. Now I'm thinking it's this vent hose leaking gas like the recall says.”
NHTSA complaint #10056616, filed 2004-02, 114,000 miles“1994 Mercury Villager has exhaust and gas fumes in the passenger compartment. I've noticed 50 similar complaints on the NHTSA defect site. Local auto service shop and dealer service shops both have no idea what is causing the noxious fumes (dealer tightened a hose, but that did not work - charged $70)”
NHTSA complaint #10002818, filed 2003-01, 70,000 miles“A foul odor of gas permeated throughout the vehicle. Dealer examined the vehicle four times, and could not find the cause of the problem. Consumer determined that a hose connector was leaking.”
NHTSA complaint #10057656, filed 2004-02, 95,000 miles“I am sending this note to complain about how the current recall on this vehicle is being handled. I have struggled to comply with this recall, involving the fuel tank, for over one month, and no dealer in this area seems to have the part, and they have no clue as to when they will be available. What can be done to remedy this situation.”
NHTSA complaint #742479, filed 2001-03“We smell gasoline fumes occasionally but couldn't figure out what was causing it. I read in the newspaper where an owner of a vehicle like mine, was experiencing the same problem. He found out that the smell was caused by gasoline leaking onto the engine at multiple points where the neoprene fuel lines connect to the fuel injection rails.”
