“Purchased a 1993 Mercury Villager from mzn auto sales on january 28, 2005. Was driving down the highway on may 19th, heard a loud noise and people were yelling to pull over that my van was on fire, both sides in flames. Come to find out, there was a recall on this vehicle for fuel related fires and we were not notified by the owner of mzn auto sales of any recalls. They have our van in their possession at this time.”
NHTSA complaint #10122013, filed 2005-05, 168,000 miles“The fuel overflow hose broke on my 1993 Mercury Villager. This caused a fuel leak and a puddle of raw gas in my attached garage. Luckily, we noted it and move the vehicle outside and cleaned the fuel up. The mechanic stated that he had replaced about 8 of these hoses in the past couple of years, 3 this year alone. This is a very dangerous condition.”
NHTSA complaint #727696, filed 2000-08“I have experienced fuel tank/line/pump leaks on two occaisons. In july 1999 following a fuel pump replacement I had a leak in the tank and or fuel lines. In june 2000 I again had a fuel leak. The dealer repaired it, at a cost of approx. $60.00 and replaced a fuel or vent line.”
NHTSA complaint #724538, filed 2000-06“When filling gas, gas would start to leak just before the pump automatic shuts off. If stop filling about 1 gallon short of full, no leak occurs. However, if park car at an incline, gas would leak indicating that fuel filler hose has crack at top. This is similar to an earlier recall for vehicles manufactured on an earlier date. I just noticed this so I do not know whether the failure is in existence since date one of my purchase. I strongly feel that there should be a wider recall for this vehicle as a fire may result from this.”
NHTSA complaint #701700, filed 1998-12“Consumer was at gas station putting gasoline inside of tank and gasoline was leaking from underneath of vehicle. Filler hose cracked and was leaking. Mechanic at the repair shop told comnsumer that gasoline tank was leaking from seams in addition to leaking from filler hose. Fuel tank and vent hose were replaced.”
