“While leaving interstate 40 to offramp, I began to brake normally. At this instant I heard a loud pop and my brake pedal went to the floorboard. I was unable to stop at the intersection and went into traffic. Fortunately I was able to avoid a collision. Upon my inspection I found that the bolts that secure the master cylinder to the firewall had broken off.”
NHTSA complaint #724083, filed 2000-06“The mileage I have is not so great that a master cylinder should need replacment on a 1993 vehicle. It is noteworthy that there is a safety recall on 1993 villagers, but not on my VIN according to the dealer, yet I have a master cylinder defect. Maybe my VIN should be in the recall.”
NHTSA complaint #706776, filed 1999-05“Abs braking system will fail to respond at any given speed, randomly, but is getting worse everytime vehicle is driven. Consumer applies full force to brake pedal, there is resistance behind the pedal, but ABS fails to engage. Consumer stated that previous owner had brake master cylinder recall repaired. Please provide any additional information/attachments.”
NHTSA complaint #886178, filed 2001-04“While driving the van driver applied the brakes and there was extended stopping distance which meant that the vehicle would not stop at that time that the brakes was applied. Took vehicle to dealer and they replaced the sensors on the brakes, and the brakes are not working. The van still has extended stopping distance.”
NHTSA complaint #821047, filed 1998-01“This vehicle was bought new by my mother. There have been problems with the brakes since 1993. She contacted wrote to the manufactuer but never received a response. Front left brake has to be changed every 2 to 3 months or more often.”
