“My sliding door latch on my 1995 Mercury Villager pops open when I am driving!!! I am afraid my child will fall out and I will sue Mercury for a great deal of money.”

NHTSA complaint #10045128, filed 2003-10, 87,000 miles

“The side door pops open to the 2nd latch at varying speeds even if the doors are locked. It has popped open at 5mph and at 70 MPH. A bump or jiggle is all it takes to open. The indicator light comes on and you can hear excess road noise. It has only once opened past the second catch in the lock. That was at highway speeds. It makes no difference whether the door is locked or unlocked. Appears to be affected by road surfaces.”

NHTSA complaint #750751, filed 2001-08

“Consumer stated lock on door keeps locking, if opened or closed, the door vehicle locks automatically, contacted ford and they are sending out a form for consumer to fill out. Consumer is requesting reimbursement for repairs on the locks.”
